Baked Yeast Doughnuts

    Instructions

    1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm milk with 1 tablespoon sugar. Proof five minutes.
    2. Dissolve butter in remaining milk and sugar.
    3. Combine mixtures.
    4. Add eggs, flour, nutmeg, and salt. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
    5. Place ball of dough in oiled bowl. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours.
    6. Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out shapes.
    7. Place doughnuts on a baking sheet and let rise 45 minutes.
    8. Spray lightly with oil. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes, until the bottoms begin to brown.

    Notes

    When the doughnuts are done, glaze with a mixture of powdered sugar, cocoa and soy milk, or roll in cinnamon sugar (Sweetie prefers latter). These do not keep well and should be eaten quickly.
