Instructions
- Prepare dough in the bread machine using water through yeast.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into a 20' x 14' rectangle. Butter the sheet with half of the softened butter, then fold into thirds and repeat.
- Cover dough completely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours, or overnight.
- Divide dough in thirds. Roll each piece into a 10 1/2' x 7' rectangle, and cut each rectangle into 6 squares.
- Place squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Fold corners towards the center.
- Spritz pastries with water and allow to double for 45 minutes.
- Brush with an egg wash and place a spoonful of filling in each center. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Place pastries on a cooling rack. Optionally dust with powdered sugar.
Notes
For more flaky layers, try repeating folding step two more times.
